VILNIUS, Lithuania

Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is a city rich in history, culture, and architectural beauty. It is best known for its UNESCO-listed Old Town, one of the largest and best-preserved medieval old towns in Europe, filled with Baroque churches, charming streets, and historic landmarks like Gediminas Castle and Cathedral Square. The city also boasts a vibrant arts and food scene, modern business districts.

Vilnius is home to Vilnius International Airport (VNO), the largest and busiest airport in Lithuania. It offers a wide range of direct flights to major European cities, served by airlines such as airBaltic, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Lufthansa, LOT Polish Airlines, and SAS. The airport is conveniently located just 6 km from the city center, with easy access via taxis, buses, and trains. For the latest updates on flights and airport services, visit the official Vilnius Airport website.

KAUNAS, Lithuania

Kaunas is the second-largest city in Lithuania, known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant cultural scene. The city is famous for its well-preserved Old Town, interwar modernist buildings (recognized by UNESCO), and lively pedestrian street Laisvės alėja. It’s a dynamic city with numerous museums, art galleries, and events happening year-round.

Kaunas is also an important transportation hub, with Kaunas International Airport (KUN) located about 14 km from the city center. It is the second busiest airport in Lithuania and serves as a key gateway for travelers, offering flights to various European destinations, mainly operated by Ryanair and other airlines. The airport is well-connected to the city by buses, taxis, and car rentals.

For the latest flight routes and airport updates, you can check the official Kaunas Airport website.

CAR RENTAL

Car rental services are widely available in Lithuania, especially in major cities and airports. For the best car rental deals, it's recommended to book in advance, especially during the period when you will be in Lithuania for the wedding. Most rental locations are in the airports.

Do not forget Full Protection Insurance and you are ready to drive.

Lithuania’s two major airports (at Vilnius and Kaunas) offer direct flights to cities all over Europe. From Vilnius International Airport, buses 1 and 2 run frequently to the city center (25 minutes); there’s also a train from the airport (once hourly; 10 minutes), and taxis and Bolt rides are reasonable (€10–15). Kaunas International Airport is reached by bus 29G from the center of town, and takes 45 minutes to one hour; a taxi (30 minutes or so) should cost less than €20. Tiny Palanga airport serves a few international cities, with bus 100 timed to meet the flights.

Once you’ve arrived in Lithuania, it’s easy to get around. Vilnius and Kaunas are covered by a comprehensive network of inexpensive public buses. City centers are very pedestrian-friendly, with many attractions clustered close together. Cyclists will love the ever-growing networks of bike lanes, and bicycles are easy to rent from multiple docking stations; you can also opt for Bolt electric scooters. Cycling is a terrific way to explore destinations on the Baltic coast, such as the Curonian Spit and the Nemunas Delta, as well as the forest-cloaked Aukštaitija and Žemaitija National Parks.

Comfortable, inexpensive trains are particularly useful for traveling between Vilnius and Kaunas. For other routes, intercity buses – which link all major cities and towns – are the faster option. For maximum flexibility, consider renting a car to get between multiple destinations. Roads are good quality, signage is simple and – other than in cobblestoned town centers – parking isn’t hard to come by.
